Let the words of my mouth, and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight O LORD my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
Isn't prayer enough? I mean, I go to Church every time the doors open...I give, I fast, I pray.... Don't confuse activities with the attitude of the heart.
Let's cut to the chase, then we'll fill in the blanks.
When you meditate, your brain waves change. You enter a different state of mind. You feel and see things you've never experienced before. Yes, things can change. Seriously. You enter the realm of the spirit, where it is totally possible for you to walk with God. Psalm 23 comes alive as you cross the threshold. As you enter Kairos time. Meditation is the practice, the process, and the vehicle, by which we exercise the eternal, or the sacred space of our soul. It will free you, and secure you in God's presence. And it will expand you from the inside out.
3 Church Styles That Shape Our Approach To God
Come join with me, and let's look at the three main church styles that shape our relationship with God and man. Let's look at these styles as approaches to God, rather than theological or institutional constructs.
Sacramental-Centered Churches
In Sacramental-Centered Churches, the Liturgy emphasizes a reverence, awe, and wonder of God. Thus, making room for meditative worship in the Sacraments. It's sometimes referred to as "our mysterious union with Christ." However, the veils of order, can act like a dream catcher, that keeps us out of God's presence. But with passionate purpose, you move through the shadows, cross the threshold, and get lost in the wonder of God. This style holds the most promise, and has the most pitfalls of all Church Styles.
Word-Centered Churches
In the Word-Centered Churches, the Lecturer Style Services, tend to leave it to the altar call, or a few songs, and prayers as the time to interact with God. Because of this lecture style, it's easy to be seriously in our heads, and blind to our hearts. The phrase that "the church is dying by degrees," and programs, and that "you have to be healthy to be a_____" totally applies. And because "knowledge puffs up," there's a lot of huffing and puffing going on as the Scriptures get pulled this way and that. So, "the meditations of my heart,"* is lost in the shuffle, becoming something private and personal. Duty and honor are preached heavily. But if you let your heart and passion lead you through the Scriptures, you will hit it nail on!
Spirit-Centered Churches
In Spirit-Centered Churches, though the emphasis is entering into God's presence by the Spirit, the Liturgy of Emotion tends to catch everything up into the passion of the moment, where everybody celebrates outside the presence of God. But when there's a breakthrough, it's deemed a revival, and everybody goes crazy. The preaching tends to be passionate, emotional, and brutal. Hence, fear "of entering in" is unintentionally fostered. At times it can feel like being in bucket of crabs trying to enter God's presence, but push through and, Awakening Dawns.
In conclusion, there is no Ideal Church Style this side of heaven. So, Bloom Where You're Planted and walk with God.
PS And remember: Meditation is the practice, the process, and the vehicle, by which we exercise the eternal, or the sacred space of our soul. Enter In.
