Christianity can be a tangled web of confusion. This church says this. That church slams that.
Then there’s the row about the Ten Commandments being posted. Some of us even want to make this a Christian nation. But who’s version of Christianity?
I’ve even got Christian friends trying to live by the Old Testament Law.
Ask any good Christian what’s the most important thing to do, and they’ll rapid fire:
They’ll say, “Jesus told the guy to do it.” And He did.
To top it off, I’m a mystic. I believe we can have a direct, real encounter with Jesus Christ. That’s my testimony. But some of my crew, (the mystics), are deconstructing Christianity and moving East. So what’s a guy to do?
Well, Here’s the Scoop, and I pray you get it
Jesus fulfilled the Law, the Whole Law, all 613 of them. He fulfilled the Ten Commandments. Jesus even fulfilled the two summations of the whole law. And then…
And then at the Last Supper, when His time had come to die for us, Jesus gathered His eleven disciples around Him, (Judas had already left to betray Him). Then He gave them His ‘last command,’ the summation of everything He was imparting into them. What He wanted them to remember to do, most of all, in their heart of hearts.
Jesus says: “I give you a new commandment“…not another commandment to add to the list. And not one to top it off. A whole new commandment. Jesus’ Opus Rex.
Here Jesus ups the ante to a whole new level. He takes it out of the realm of possibility, and makes it concrete. Instead of something we might aspire to, Jesus puts it in terms of living out of a whole new nature. And that whole new nature’s character is love, but not just any old love, the way Jesus loved, and loves…
And here’s the results:
The way Jesus does it, disciples not only embody the teachings of their master, we carry His Spirit. We’ve got His attitude. We manifest His character in our lives.
So we’re not called to be Christians, that’s not enough. And we’re not called to be Church members, that’s not enough. We are called to be disciples of our Lord and Master.
We’re called to abide in the Vine and be transformed from the inside out. The proof of our discipleship is our love. That we love the way Jesus loved. It’s evident to everybody. The world can’t miss it. This is what sets us apart from this world. This is the salt of the earth. This is the light of the world. Our Jesus love for each other.
